Racine, WI Zoological Gardens

On my trip to the Zoo, you might say I re-visited my childhood. I think the last time I was at any kind of Zoo was when I was about 12-13 years old. It was fascinating watching and listening to the animals. I highly recommend the Racine Zoo for a quiet and simple experience.

In this recording, I was outside the Tiger area. The water noise is a waterfall, and you will hear first the female who is inside, and then the male, who is outside. These are Amur Tigers, or Siberian Tigers. The estimated population for these left in the world is 431-529 individuals. Click here for more information on the Amur Tiger.

Racine, WI along the lakefront, N/E of the Zoo

It was a very foggy day. I could only see about 15 feet in front of me. While walking down the beach right on the lake, I noticed a flock of about 15 geese swimming south. I decided to stop and record. There was a very strong north blowing wind at the time.

Along the Racine beaches, there are these long piers that are mostly broken down and falling apart. I got this recording by hanging my mic down into the middle of one of these piers. I like the echo in the recording. The mics were shielded from wind inside the structure.

While walking through the rich suburbs of Racine, I heard this lone bird, who chirped for about 3-4 minutes.

I was walking down Erie St. when I passed under a canopy of trees and the wind was rustling the leaves. You can also hear traffic passing behind me as I recorded.
